James Wythe is an all round cool guy and I am honoured to be able to feature him here on my blog.
I saw James’ story after I had been battling with M.E. this time last year and I was so inspired with how he had gone through such a challenging journey and come out of it the other side so much stronger. After reaching out to him on Social Media, we met up over coffee and shared our experiences from the illness in a positive way.
I’m so grateful James came into my life then. As he has not only introduced me to his INCREDIBLE & HEALTHY recipes but he has also been a kind, supportive and empowering friend. I hope you enjoy getting to know him a little better too…
“When In Doubt…Get The Nut Butter Out!” – Healthy Living James
Tell me a bit about yourself.
My name is James Wythe, I am 28 from Bournemouth and I run a food blog called Healthy Living James. I have a passion for creating healthy recipes, which are free from gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs and refined sugar and sharing my journey with others to help and inspire them into improving their overall health.
What inspired you to start your blog?
After suffering from long term illness for the past 6 1/2 years, where I was bed bound for the first 2 years and mainly housebound for 3-4 years, I taught myself how to cook allergy free healthy meals that didn’t take much time due to my low energy levels. I opened my blog in August 2016, as I wanted to share my knowledge and really help to inspire people into thinking more about their health.
Can you summarise your approach to health and nutrition?
I create recipes which are free from gluten, wheat, dairy, egg as these are all things that I am allergic to and my recipes are also refined sugar free, as I avoid sugar. As for my approach to health, I really try to live as balanced as possible and make more informed choices when it comes to my food and lifestyle. Healthy living can definitely be fun and there are so many things you can do to really improve your health, it just comes down to if you want it enough!
What is #HealthyLiving to you?
You are what you eat so making more informed decisions around what you consume and the overall lifestyle you lead is what healthy living means to me.
What would you like Healthy Living James to become in your wildest dreams?!
Definitely a series of recipe books on the shelves next to all the best ones!!! I would also love to build a brand and potentially create a product or do some TV/demonstration work in the future. I always wanted to help others with their overall health, hence why I started studying to become a Health Coach and will be fully qualified in January 2018. I would love to incorporate this into my long term goals for the future to help as many people as I can through a wider reach than just 1 to 1 sessions.
What does a typical day in your diet look like?
Breakfast: A smoothie usually consisting of blueberries, avocado, banana, hemp seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, vegan protein powder and almond milk
Lunch: Is often leftover stews, curries, soups from dinner the night before or in the summer I love creating refreshing salads.
Dinner: A home cooked curry, stew, fish/chicken with sweet potato fries, stir-fry.
What is your favourite foodie treat?
I absolutely love my Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies , which are so simple to make!
Can you describe your exercise regime?
Due to my condition I just do 10-15 minutes of yoga each morning and try to do at least 1 walk a day!
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
I wake up around 7am and reply to messages or comments on social media. I then do my yoga followed by my smoothie and shower.
In the morning I usually study or create a recipe along with taking some photos. I often spend a decent amount of time creating a lunch bowl, which I feature quite often on my social media’s as I know people struggle with lunch ideas.
In the afternoon I do admin work for the blog, brain storm new recipes, arrange my social media posts for that evening.
We often eat dinner around 7pm and this is where I try to experiment as much as possible in the kitchen.
I then spend time with Luise in the evening before trying to sleep around 11:30pm.
If you could go back and give yourself one piece of health/fitness advice what would it be and when?
Definitely 7 years ago before I fell ill. I would tell myself to listen to your body and improve your overall attitude towards lifestyle!
What are your future plans?
I have 6 months left on my health coaching course, so I am looking forward to being able to help others. I also would love to work towards getting a publishing deal to create my dream recipe book! Apart from that I am the type of person who just lets thing happen naturally and just enjoy the journey 🙂
